Another Award For Wonderkid Wickham?

Ipswich Town striker Connor Wickham is one of three nominees in line to receive the npower Football League Young Player of the Year Award.

After a quiet first half of the season, Wickham looks certain to beat his tally from last year having netted 6 goals in Town's last 12 league matches, including his first senior hat-trick away at Doncaster Rovers. That earned him the Championship Player of the Month award in February, and the 6ft 3in frontman, who only turns 18 at the end of the March, has long been catching the eye of managers, scouts and pundits alike. Having this week received another call-up to the England U21 international squad, Wickham is certainly building his reputation as one of the top teenage talents in the country.

Recognising his performances, the Football League have selected Wickham as one of three young stars up for the annual award, nominated alongside Watford's Will Buckley and Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury, currently on loan at East Anglian rivals Norwich City. All three have been chosen for having made what the Football League describe as 'the most significant contribution and impact in first team football this season'.

The winner of the award will be officially announced at the Football League Awards Ceremony in London on Sunday 20 March. For more information, please visit the Official Football League Website.
