Jewell Planning Roberts Reunion?

Jewell Planning Roberts Reunion?

Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell is reportedly interested in bringing Blackburn striker Jason Roberts to Portman Road this summer.

33-year-old Roberts, who has won 22 international caps with Grenada, was a major part of the Wigan Athletic side that won promotion to the Premier League under Jewell's management in 2005. The striker netted 21 league goals that season having forged a particularly fruitful partnership up front with Nathan Ellington. Roberts also played for West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth before joining Rovers in 2006, where he has scored 22 Premier League goals in five seasons.

Rumours linking Jewell with his former Wigan players will come as no surprise, though the targeting of Roberts could be met with a rather mixed reception from Town fans. The frontman was a huge success in his last spell at this level but has hardly been prolific in the top flight, and at 33, he is older than current Blues striker Jason Scotland. Town are in need of experienced goalscorers however, with Jewell likely to be focusing attention on finding a suitable strike partner for 18-year-old Connor Wickham next season.

How would you feel about the Blues signing Jason Roberts? Is he past it, or could he still be a prolific goalscorer at this level? Have your say on this story by joining Vital Ipswich:
