Blade Evans Linked While Lambe Given The Chop

Blade Evans Linked While Lambe Given The Chop

Reports in South Yorkshire suggest that Sheffield United's Ched Evans is the latest striker to emerge as a target for Ipswich Town this summer.

Former Manchester City frontman Evans joined the Blades for a club record £3 million in 2009 after a successful loan at Norwich City, but he now looks destined to leave Bramall Lane after Micky Adams' side were relegated to League One last weekend. The Welsh international, who has netted 9 league goals this season, is said to be interesting Town manager Paul Jewell as well as Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray, whilst Norwich could look to re-sign Evans following their promotion to the Premier League.

Blades boss Adams revealed that he expects a number of high profile departures in the coming weeks as the club look to reduce their wage bill for next season. 'Certain players will be leaving the football club,' he told BBC Radio Sheffield. 'In our position, you have to listen to any sensible offers for any player but We don't want to sell young players.'

Evans follows a number of strikers recently linked with moves to Town this summer, with Wigan Athletic's Jason Roberts, Portsmouth's David Nugent and Doncaster Rovers' Billy Sharp all mentioned in connection with the Blues in the last week or so. There could however be a snag in any Town attempt to sign Evans after the 22-year-old was stretchered off in United's 2-2 draw with Barnsley last Saturday with damage to his ankle ligaments, meaning any potential deal is likely to be held up until he recovers.

Meanwhile Ipswich have confirmed that 20-year-old midfielder Reggie Lambe is set to be released at the end of the campaign. The Bermudan international, who has recently been on loan with Bristol Rovers, has failed to break into the Town first team with just six appearances to his name in all competitions and is set to leave once his contract expires in the summer.

As you said in a previous post, we have not been too sucessful in signing Championship players....If we cash in on Wickham we might be able to cast our net further afield an bring in some quality from overseas for a fair price.
