Tractor Boys Tracking Treacy?

Tractor Boys Tracking Treacy?

Reports in Ireland claim Ipswich Town are contemplating a bid for Preston North End midfielder Keith Treacy.

Despite only joining Preston from Blackburn Rovers last summer, Treacy could well be set to leave Deepdale after the Lilywhites were relegated to League One. The 22-year-old, who could win his fourth cap for the Republic of Ireland in the Carling Nations Cup this evening, was one of the few standout players in the Preston squad this season with an impressive 9 goals and 9 assists in all competitions.

Treacy has revealed that North End manager Phil Brown is prepared to listen to offers for him. 'We had a meeting and he's just put a price on my head and said, if it gets met, all well and good, we won't hold you back,' Treacy told the Irish Times. 'We'll have to wait and see now if a club is interested or what's going to happen but I'm hopeful, yeah, because I want to play at the highest level I possibly can.'

Reports suggest that the Blues are one of several clubs hoping to lure Treacy back to the Championship. Burnley are said to have had a bid of around £800,000 rejected by the Lilywhites, with Nottingham Forest and Ipswich both rumoured to be lining up offers of £1 million. Town could well be interested in Treacy with boss Paul Jewell known to be planning reinforcements to his midfield for next season. The likes of Forest's Nathan Tyson, Exeter City's Liam Sercombe and Dundee United's Craig Conway have all been linked in recent weeks, whilst the Blues had previously had a £300,000 bid rejected for Doncaster Rovers' midfielder James Coppinger.

Personally I would very much be in favour of this one. I've rated Treacy since his time with Sheffield United and he was an excellent player in a poor Preston team this season. Only 22 and as much as I'm cautious about where we spend our money, £1 million doesn't seem like an awful lot for someone who could well have a very bright career ahead of him.

I would go for Ian Hume at PNE. He gave us a bloody nose when we last met at deepdale .

Hume's okay but I'm not sure he would be that much better than what we already have. I used to watch him fairly regularly in his Leicester City days and he was pretty good, but I'm not sure he's been the same player since that nasty head injury during his time at Barnsley. He has said he is committed to staying with Preston in League One, but then again he said the same thing when he was at Leicester...(!)
