Ingimarsson Comes To Town But Bullard Says Bye-Bye

Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell has confirmed that defender Ivar Ingimarsson will be joining the club once his deal with Reading expires.

Ingimarsson had been widely expected to sign for the Blues after rumours circulated that the 33-year-old had travelled to Portman Road for talks last Friday. Jewell has now revealed that the Icelandic international, who will leave Reading in July after making 239 appearances for the club, has signed a one year deal with Town.

Jewell told the Ipswich Town Official Website: 'I had a chat with Ivar while we were both in Spain and it's all sorted out, he will be with us for the first day of pre-season.

'Ivar knows what this league is all about. He knows what it takes to be successful and I'm delighted that he will be with us next season.'

One player who will not be joining Ipswich however is Jimmy Bullard. The Hull City midfielder proved a sensation at Portman Road with 5 goals in a 16 game loan spell that earned him the Supporters' Player of the Year Award. However, Jewell explained that the Blues simply cannot afford a permanent deal for the 32-year-old.

'We'd love to have kept him. He was great for us and I think we were good for Jimmy, there's no doubt about that,' Jewell told local reporters, 'but after hours of negotiations it's looking unlikely.

'He's on a fantastic contract there [at Hull], it's not just a Premier League contract, it's a top Premier League contract.'

Meanwhile the Town boss has denied claims in the press that Liverpool have made a bid for striker Connor Wickham, with the club yet to receive any offers for the 18-year-old. Speculation was growing towards the end of last week that Wickham could be set for a move to either Liverpool or Sunderland following the arrival of striker Michael Chopra on Friday.
