Town Boss: No Buys Before Bristol City
Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell has told reporters that he is not expecting any further signings to be completed before the Blues' first match of the season against Bristol City on Saturday.
Town are understood to still be in talks with Blackburn Rovers over a loan deal for midfielder Keith Andrews, whilst the club are also known to be targeting another defender. However, Jewell explained that no more deals are likely to be tied up before the trip to Ashton Gate this weekend.
'We have been trying to bring in two players this week but it hasn't happened,' Jewell told the local press. 'One of the clubs have not even returned our calls.'
'We hope to have two deals struck next week. It is not just about Saturday, we are still going to try and improve the squad.'
Whilst Andrews is almost certain to be one of the players in question, the second is still unknown. Jewell confirmed rumours earlier in the week that Slovenian U21 international Aljaz Struna has been at Portman Road in the past few days, but the FC Koper defender has merely been training with the club with a view to a possible deal some time in the future, rather than representing an imminent signing.
Young Arsenal defender Kyle Bartley has also been mentioned as a possible loan target, whilst Everton's Republic of Ireland U21 international Shane Duffy is said to have expressed an interest in the idea of joining the Blues on a short-term deal.
