Town Clinch Collins Loan Deal

Town Clinch Collins Loan Deal

Ipswich Town have officially announced the signing of Stoke City defender Danny Collins on a three month loan deal.

Town were linked with Collins several times during the summer transfer window with manager Paul Jewell hoping to strengthen his defence. Despite facing competition from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest and Portsmouth, it seems the way was cleared for the Blues to sign the Wales international after he was left out of Stoke's 25-man Premier League squad last week.

Jewell told the local press that he feels former Sunderland defender Collins will bring plenty of qualities to his Town squad: 'He will give us more pace and has Premier League experience. He knows what this league is like as well having been promoted twice as champions with Sunderland.

'He is versatile and can play at left-back, so he provides options and he's also an international, so we are getting a player with a lot of qualities. He's a good addition for us.'

Collins will remain at Portman Road for 93 days in accordance with league rules over deals completed during the 'emergency' loan window. The 31-year-old has been added to Jewell's squad for Saturday's trip to Blackpool and looks set to be handed his debut at Bloomfield Road.
