McCarthy Already Free To Rejoin Ireland

McCarthy Already Free To Rejoin Ireland

Papers in Ireland are reporting that Mick McCarthy could rejoin the Republic of Ireland as manager without them having to pay Ipswich any compensation.

They claim Ireland`s 1990 World Cup captain and former manager, Mick McCarthy has a clause in his contract with new club Ipswich Town which states that if the FAI offer the 53 year-old the Irish manager`s job in the summer, then Irish football`s governing body will not have to pay us a penny compensation.

But it appears the clause written into McCarthy`s Ipswich contract is exclusively for the Irish manager`s job, and no other job.

At the momemnt current Republic of Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapattoni has a contract which runs until the Republic`s interest in the 2014 World Cup ends, and that could be as soon as next March when they play Sweden and Austria.

There is groundswell of opinion wnating the Italian out of the job, with McCarthy, and inevitably Roy Keane, tipped to take over, although Harry Redknapp will be in the frame if he doesn't land the QPR job before then.
