Captain Carlos Edwards popped up with his first goal in two years to keep Ipswich abover the relegation zone.
Edwards, who had not netted since scoring against Scunthorpe on March 19, 2011, had two cracks at finishing after a low cross from JET.
It wa s acracking finish for Town who had dominated the first half but were pinned back for much of the secodn, although Bolton rarely had anything on goal.
The Blues might have had a penalty when Richard Stearman went down under a Marcos Alonso challenge but referee Stuart Attwell, he of the infamous goal that wasn`t at Watford, wasn`t interested.
Daryl Murphy sent in a great cross but Edwards` header scraped a post.
Then David McGoldrick found Andy Drury with a peach of a high ball but Andy Lonergan made a good save. When the Town do again combined Murphy slipped at the crucial moment and failed to connect with McGoldrick`s low pass.
Murphy broke clear after a Zat Knight cock-up but his shot was tipped away by Lonergan, although the ref gave a goal kick.
Chris Eagles went close for Wanderers, while Craig Davies was booked for punching the ball past Stephen Henderson.
Murphy missed a late chance but Town march on.
