Ireland Shortlist Announced Next Friday

WANTAWAY Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy will find out next Friday if he is on the shortlist to become Republic of Ireland's manager - again.

Headhunters Ray Houghton and Ruud Dokter have been making discreet contact with a host of prospective candidates, which so far does not include McCarthy despite all the speculation, and will report to their FAI bosses on November 1

Although McCarthy has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave Portman Road to take the Ireland job for a second time, compensation will be sought by Marcus Evans.

Evans knows the FAI well as one of his companies, THG Sports, provide corporate hospitality for matches at the national stadium and so far the two have not officially discussed McCarthy leaving Town.

First choice Martin O'Neill is not keen and would prefer a Premier League club, Roy Keane is also a possibility but has many enemies, while a foreign appointment is not likely.

So, all in all, it doesn't look like McCarthy will be leaving but he has not done himself many favours in not ending the speculation and making it look like he would take the job if offered.
