No Pressure Ahead Of Blackburn

Manager Mick McCarthy has said that Ipswich are under no pressure as we head into the final games of the season, starting with Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, McCarthy insisted that all the pressure was on those teams above us in the league and that we could simply play our game and just see what happens.

Of course a victory over Blackburn could see us lift into the play off places, and we are boosted by the fact that the only injury we have is David McGoldrick so the gaffer has a full pack to choose from.

'I don't see us as being under pressure when it comes to the top six. The pressure is on the teams in the top six. At this stage of the season they will be desperate not to fall out of the play off places. It's the same at the bottom. I still get tingles down my spine when I think back to last year and we'd come off the pitch hoping we had not dropped into the bottom three. That hits you so hard.'

McCarthy goes on to say that fortunately for us, we are fighting at the right end of the table this season and he feels that there is a certain psychological advantage at this stage to being out of the top six, but coming from behind with some momentum, usually leaves teams in a better position ultimately because you haven't got the disappointment of not pushing on for the automatic spots, or slipping down from the presumed 'easier' play off positions and facing harder games in the play offs themselves.

Ahead of the game, McCarthy has admitted that having been able to extend the loan of midfielder Jonathan Williams has been a big boost for the team ahead of Blackburn, and he even said of the 24 hour recall clause that one of those was always going to exist if a deal could be done, so even if we only have Jonny for a couple of games and he gets called back, it's a bonus for us because he really didn't think we'd get to extend the deal at all.
