McCarthy Wishes Cresswell Luck
Manager Mick McCarthy has said he wishes Aaron Cresswell the best of luck for his future following his move to West Ham United.
The 24 year old moves for an undisclosed fee to the Hammers, but it's speculated in the press that it is around £3.75million and he has signed a five year deal with his new club.
Having joined us from Tranmere Rovers back in the summer of 2011 for just over £200,000, Cresswell quickly became an important part of the side and was named the Supporters Player of the Year in his first season with us, and he leaves us now having made 138 appearances for the club, scoring seven times.
Speaking to the Official Site as his departure was announced, the gaffer said.
'He's been fantastic for us and we wish him well. It's the right time for Cressy to move on though and test himself in the Premier League. There comes a time when a deal has to be done. That has to be fair for everyone though. It needs to be the right deal for the club and the player and if it is the right deal for Cressy then he was always going to want to move on. He served his apprenticeship at Tranmere and then extended that here and became one of the best players in the Championship.'
Cresswell himself want to take time to thank the fans and the club for their support and the part they have played in his development as he now gets the move to football's top flight.
'I would like to put on record my sincere thanks to the owner, manager and fans at Ipswich for their fantastic support over the past three years. I'm sad to be leaving Ipswich Town as I've built up a great relationship with everyone, however it's a huge opportunity to play in the Premier League and a challenge I'm looking forward to taking up.'
