Paying For Nobody

Paying For Nobody

Mick McCarthy has had an Ipswich policy where he signs only free agents; players that will cost nothing fee wise or loanees.

This has been his way since arriving in November 2012 and will remain the case....

His trio of summer signing to date are Cameron Stewart, Alex Henshall and Jonathan Parr, all came in as free agents at the end of existing deals with previous clubs and in many ways McCarthy is right as spending money does not always ensure you anything.

Money, to the tune, of £3.75m from the sale of Aaron Cresswell might be burning a hole in Ipswich pockets but the reinvestment of this, as promised, will come in wages with him telling BBC Radio Suffolk this week that this is how he wants his funds spent.

Sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate but this philosophy and way of going about things hasn't done us too much harm so far has it?
