Ipswich Could Go Top If They Beat The Bees

These are indeed exciting times to be an Ipswich Town fan and what makes it even more riveting is the set of Championship fixtures at the weekend that pairs leaders Cardiff with second placed Wolves!

The best scenario for the Blues would be a draw because if we were to win at home to Brentford United then we would not only have won five games in succession but also find ourselves top of the table!

Winning on Saturday, regardless of what happens in the top of the table clash, would ensure that Town had moved up to second, in what has been a quite remarkable start to the Championship season.

These are indeed heady days to be supporting the Tractor Boys and yet it is only a couple of weeks since we were all feeling decidedly miserable, when we were clobbered by First Division Charlton Athletic 6-1!

I suppose it proves once and for all that we should not read too much into pre-season friendlies - even if it was the last one we happened to play any part in.

With less than forty eight hours before kick off it will be interesting to see how manager Mick McCarthy will approach this one? Against Millwall his hands were largely tied but on Saturday there is every hope that one or two of the absentees may return to the fray.

For a start, our midfield should look a little more complete as both Flynn Downes and Luke Hyam should be available for selection and there may also be a place for Bersant Celina, if he recovers from his third bout of illness within a very short space of time.

The likelihood is that McCarthy won't tamper with his winning team too much - although I doubt whether he will use all his forwards from the start again. That said, none of them disgraced themselves at The Den and surely McGoldrick, Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn will all be expected to start.

Grant Ward who came back into the side at Millwall, remains very upbeat about the prospects for Town this season and said,
'We`re doing it for the manager because we do owe him a bit. He got a bit of stick and we got a bit of stick but in the main it was him who got most of it. We`re looking to keep up the good form and get everyone back on board."

Brentford United have a few injury concerns of their own at the moment, with midfielder Josh McEachran suffering a serious injury against Bristol City on Tuesday night which meant like Andre Dozzell, he was in need of oxygen as he left the field.

He will be out of action as they assess him closely and also missing will be Sergi Canos, who has been out of action with an ankle injury and Ryan Woods who has missed the last two Brentford fixtures, after tragically losing the baby he and his partner were expecting.

But better news for the Bees is that Rico Henry could return to the starting lineup.
