Ipswich Town Are Defying Football Logic

Ipswich Town Are Defying Football Logic

Before a ball had been kicked most of us Town supporters feared the very worst. A long hard struggle that might even end in relegation unless the board decided to get shut of McCarthy and his crew.

Our last pre-season friendly ended in a 6-1 thumping by lower league opposition and the knives were being sharpened again and pointing once again in the general direction of the management team.

Then the season started with a narrow home win at Portman Road against Birmingham City as new signing Martyn Waghorn watched from the stands.

Already injuries had begun to bite and Mick McCarthy found himself having to juggle his pack and change formations to accommodate them.

We were fearful too that facing Luton away in the Carabao Cup would add to our woes, after they had annihilated Yeovil days earlier 8-2!

How wrong we all were and how very wrong were the so-called football experts, as we continued to win and win and win!

Barnsley, Millwall and then yesterday Brentford, all succumbed to the new found confidence and determination that this squad has inherited.

Town now have eleven players out injured and yet the fear was that we would struggle this term because although there is more quality in the squad it is much smaller than last season.

What Ipswich Town are doing is defying football logic at the moment and although the Blues are riding their luck it is strengthening the belief that we are in for an amazing season!

After our two new strikers Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner got on the scoresheet yet again yesterday, Glaswegians in Scotland are fuming that they let them go to Ipswich for a pittance. Rangers by the way, could only draw 0-0 with Hearts which added further fuel to the fire of discontentment over the border.

So then it is five wins out of five in all competitions as Ipswich move to second in the Championship table against all the odds.

Grinding out results has made us hard to beat and when some of our sick notes get back into the squad, they may find it increasingly difficult to get back into the team!

Yes, it is early days and as Mick McCarthy inferred both criticism and praise are unwanted imposters but he surely prefers the latter to the former I would have thought.
