Why Bersant Celina Must Start On Saturday

Why Bersant Celina Must Start On Saturday

The season may still be in its infancy but already we have had our fair share of ups and downs.

Of course few of us thought we could start the season with four straight Championship victories but we did.

And few of us expected our two new striking incumbents from Rangers Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn, would bed in quite so quickly and hit the ground running but they did.

Yet, it was not just the form of our new forwards and the points we were accumulating that was so remarkable but also the style of football that we played.

After that thumping in pre-season at Charlton we dreaded what was to follow but instead Town went into the season full of confidence and belief and although we rode our luck, we kept on winning.

Even the defeat in the Carabao Cup to Crystal Palace was no great disgrace and although that was the only game the Londoners won under Frank de Boer, it was a very narrow victory and against our youth team we must not forget!

At Portman Road against Fulham the first real warning signs became apparent. Just like last term, we were completely outclassed and the defeat could have been bigger, had it not been for the heroics of keeper Bartosz Bialkowski and he again kept the score down to a respectable level again at Loftus Road on Saturday, when QPR turned on the heat and went into overdrive in the second half.

What is worrying is that our strike force is looking a bit lame just now. Waghorn and Garner have gone off the boil and David McGoldrick is back to his infuriating worst by constantly choosing the wrong options, when it comes to shooting and passing.

There is no doubting his ability but his achilles heel is his selfishness and he is often far too profligate in front of goal.

Bersant Celina got just 14 minutes on Saturday and by then we had already been trailing 2-0 for almost 30 minutes when he finally entered the fray. If he had come on a bit earlier we may just have sneaked a point - who knows?

That is why I believe that he must start on Saturday at Portman Road against the Championship's bottom club Bolton Wanderers.

The Manchester City loanee has the ability to unlock defences and get some pace and skill back into our forward line.

Manager Mick McCarthy appears to be going back to his old ways and not utilizing all the attacking options at his disposal.

A survey in today's East Anglian Daily Times suggests that 97% of supporters agree that Celina must start and I would drop David McGoldrick to accommodate him in the side if needs must.
