Is It Time Town Fans Wiped The Slate Clean?

Is It Time Town Fans Wiped The Slate Clean?

I remember compiling a survey some months ago about manager Mick McCarthy and whether you felt he should leave and the vast majority thought that he should.

Since then, the mood appears to have changed and even those stay-away fans are slowly starting to return to Portman Road as well.

After back to back victories for the first time since the beginning of the season, the Blues have become a free scoring, free spirited squad and unlike last season, they are a breath of fresh air to watch!

Yes, Town leak a lot of goals but they have got into the pleasing habit of scoring even more and on Saturday they netted four against Nottingham Forest to the delight of the 16,000 plus crowd.

We have a group of players that clearly believe in the tactics employed by Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor, which is a far cry from last season for so many reasons.

It was not just where we finished last term that was so disappointing (our lowest league position since season 1958-59) but our lack of adventure and the obvious absence of goals. Goals win games and the reason we drew so many matches last time around I believe, was because we did not have a prolific goalscorer.

How things have changed! On Saturday Martyn Waghorn reached double figures, which beats the total scored by Tom Lawrence during the whole of the last league campaign!

Bersant Celina also added to the scoresheet on Saturday and he is already on six goals - which is not bad for a player who could hardly get a kick in the first few weeks of the new season.

David McGoldrick is also on six and even Joe Garner is wading in with five as things stand, so our strikers are scoring finally!

Yet against Forest, apart from the Waghorn strike, it was Town's three loan players who ended up scoring too and this surely shows a real team spirit throughout the squad.

Next up is Middlesborough away but we seem to be raising our game against the more fancied sides these days, so there is every reason to believe we can get something at the Riverside Stadium.

We now find ourselves in seventh place in the table and just three points off those illusive play-off places, so the question remains, has our mood changed towards manager Mick McCarthy?
