When Will Mick McCarthy Finally See The Light?

When Will Mick McCarthy Finally See The Light?

Manager Mick McCarthy speaks his mind with the honesty expected of a Yorkshireman but his perceptions of the way we play are often nothing more than delusional.

Now a regular contributor to Vital Ipswich is CMC and if you read his article from today you will quickly see that not every Town fan has serious cause for complaint.

On the contrary CMC believes that we must give the Blues our backing and not be tempted to boo or jeer when we do not perform to our best, as was clearly evident to most of us on Saturday.

If you minus the thousand or so travelling supporters, then around 11,000 Town fans turned up for a competition that we actually won in 1978, and to celebrate this 40 year anniversary we collectively failed to have a shot on target in all of 90 minutes!

Now I know our injury list is horrendous but we still have enough quality in the side to at least have a shot or two on target and although we played the ball around neatly from time to time, there was no cutting edge to our play and this has to be serious cause for concern. Waghorn made a difference when he eventually came on but then McCarthy decided not to use two of his other strikers on the bench.

That decision was baffling and so to was his after-match remarks that suggested that he was satisfied with the performance. We are playing at home and yet it was Sheffield United who played three up front as we reverted to our boring single striker routine.

Talking to the BBC afterwards Mccarthy said defiantly, 'I thought we played well until the goal. I'm not unhappy with the performance, I'm unhappy with the result.'

Why young Irish prospect Drinian or Garner did not play some part remains a mystery to most of us and even CMC accepts that in this regard he found McCarthy's decision-making a bit baffling.

So once again, we are out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle and once again when we have enjoyed home advantage.

What started out as a very promising season, when McCarthy actually seemed to want his team to entertain has come to this. A dire example of Championship football at its very worst.
