McCarthy's time at Ipswich has run its course. he stablised the club after the disaster that was Roy Keane, [whose first target was to change the clubs colours just because he did not like Blue). but Mike has not been able to lift the Tractor Blues to the entertainment levels of managers like Royle,[on a shoe string budget), Lyle and Burley, and that's without mentioned our two Knights of the land Sir Alf and Sir Bobby!!!
McCarthy shot himself in the foot a couple of years back not so much when he swapped 10 of the eleven first teamers but when after they lost the said FA cup game - not Mike's strongest competition] he promptly told his first teamers on national radio they were his best eleven. From that moment his said first eleven gained complacency, from captain to ball boys and the tanoy system its been down hill..
While Evans has not thrown money at the club he has bailed us out and kept us afloat. Two years ago he drew up a five year plan to have half the team home grown within five years. and duly released enough money to ensure the Acadamy has regained its prestious place Ipswich was once reknown for. Sadly McCarthy has not married into this vision, he has no sense of building for the future.
Rather than build a team from scratch, the steady stream of young academy talent being produced is regularly farmed out to progressive clubs in the lower reaches where the player get a taste of regular football and loyally sign up to those clubs which have faith in them.
While McCarthy loans in for a season if we are lucky, former players who know him and agree with his negative game' with no continuity for the club. oh for a flair player who run at a defence and take a game by the scruff of the neck.
Si Mike thanks for the efforts, but its time for both of us to move on to pastures new. let us seek out one of those progressive managers from the lower reaches could get Ipswich Town back into the dizzy reaches of play offs, get back the ten thousand fans we have lost in about ten years, and one day fulfill the supporter's dreams of Premiership Football, where we belong!!
