Town 0-1 Norwich City

Ipswich
0 - 1
Norwich City

Portman Road

23/08/14; 12:15pm

Attendance: 25,245

Referee:

You don't ever want to lose any game, although the game against your 'nearest and no so dearest' as Mick McCarthy put it is one that you want to lose even less.

Ipswich couldn't avoid defeat though as Norwich City gain the early season bragging rights with a 1-0 win at Portman Road on Saturday lunchtime.

Lewis Grabban (24) powered home a header at the midway point of the first half to maintain his good championship form and give our rivals the lead. Christophe Berra, who was on the floor, played Grabban onside with some calls to the contrary.

Daryl Murphy really should have headed us level but somehow he didn't even challenge John Ruddy as he headed wide.

Twice Grabban could have added to his tally, but twice when through he failed. Firstly his attempted chip went over with the second cleared off the line by Tommy Smith alas his first half goal was enough despite the final 15-minute onslaught from Town.

Three years ago it was 4-1 and 5-1 defeats, 1-0 is a 'better scoreline' but still hurts nonetheless....
