What Are You Waiting For?

What Are You Waiting For?

It might seem like an eternity without our beloved game, but with less than two months left until the start of the 2011/12 season, there are fears it might not be long enough for Ipswich Town.

With the disappointing 2010/11 campaign now in the past, Ipswich are looking ahead to what will hopefully be much brighter days next year. Paul Jewell is already making preparations for his first full season in charge at Portman Road, but with a considerable loss of personnel at the end of the last campaign, the Blues boss is facing a major challenge to not only rebuild the squad but mould a side capable of achieving promotion to the Premier League next season.

We therefore decided to ask you whether you are confident that Town will be ready for the 2011/12 season. This was your response:

39% - Yes
55% - No
6% - Not sure yet

At the time this poll was first opened, Ipswich had yet to make any signings this summer. As such, it is small wonder that the majority of fans were voicing concern about next season, with over half of respondents expressing a lack of confidence that Town will be ready in time, compared to 39% who said they felt we will be adequately prepared come August. Considering the major work that is required this summer, one might have felt frustrated at how the Blues were yet to get off the mark in the transfer market whilst other clubs (not least Norwich City) were already looking busy.

Opinions may have changed slightly since then with the arrival of striker Michael Chopra from Cardiff City on Friday, which may go a long way to solving one of the major problems with the Ipswich squad ahead of next season. However, there is still much more work to do, with centre-midfield and centre-back positions now top priority for Jewell. Now the new signing ball is rolling however, there could be plenty more activity in the weeks to come.

This week's poll: 'How many more signings do you think Ipswich Town need to make this summer?' (See right-hand column to view the list and place your vote)

What have you made of Ipswich Town's close-season activity so far? Are you worried about us being ready in time for next season, or do you think Paul Jewell has it all under control? Share your views using the comment box below.

In my opinion we need replacements for MacAuley, Norris & Bullard and that will do nicely with maybe a couple of extra lower cost squad players. But for me Chopra + three will be ok.

I'd agree that we need to replace McAuley, Norris and Bullard, though I feel there are a few other things we need. I'd like to see us sign another striker in addition to Chopra with maybe one of the current crop being sold on (though I must admit I'd rather it wasn't Wickham!) I'd also prefer to see us make more signings at full-back, not least because I still believe we can do better than having Carlos Edwards on the right of defence!
