Just The Two Of Us: Town's International Review
Whatever you might think of the timing, the first week of the Football League season has once again been accompanied by international fixtures, and several Ipswich Town players were called up for duty. Here's our summary of the action.

Despite having a Carling Cup fixture to fulfil last week, Ipswich were due to have four players away on international duty, though only two were to see any action. Tamas Priskin was once again named in the Hungary squad for their home friendly against Iceland, whilst youngster Josh Carson was included in the Northern Ireland U21 squad for their 2013 European Championships qualifier against the Faroe Islands.

On-loan Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale had been called up for Fabio Capello's England squad last Sunday, but any hopes of winning his first cap were dashed when the Three Lions' friendly against the Netherlands was called off due to safety concerns in the wake of the London riots. Meanwhile Damien Delaney had been named in the Republic of Ireland squad to face Croatia but had to withdraw with the injury he picked up in Town's win at Bristol City.

Of the pair who did see action for their countries, Tamas Priskin won his 34th international cap for Hungary last Wednesday in their friendly against Iceland in Budapest. With the score at 2-0, the Town striker came on as a half-time substitute in place of Krisztian Vadozc. Despite Priskin being unable to add to his international scoring tally, the Hungarians eventually ran out 4-0 winners.

It was a similar success story on Wednesday for Josh Carson and the Northern Ireland U21s in Euro 2013 qualifying action against the Faroe Islands. The 18-year-old started for the hosts in Belfast and played 70 minutes until being replaced by William Grigg, by which time Northern Ireland were 2-0 up. Like Hungary, they went on to claim a 4-0 victory, placing them top of Qualifying Group 4 with matches against Serbia and Denmark to follow in September.

A fairly quiet but largely successful week for Town's international players then, but the focus now returns to club matters as the 2011/12 season gets into full swing.
