No Thank You For The Music

No Thank You For The Music
Ipswich Town are currently asking fans for their views on goal celebration music at Portman Road, so Vital Ipswich decided to take our own poll on the subject over the past week.

Like it or not, it has become common at English football grounds for a home team's goals to be accompanied by some sort of rousing jingle. Town have been toying with their celebration tune in recent times, blasting out Tom Hark for four years until it was swapped for The Fratellis' Chelsea Dagger in 2007. The club then began proposing using work by homegrown artists such as Blues fan Asa Jennings in a bid to restore some local originality - or perhaps just to cut back on rock star royalties!

However, that proposal was met by something of a lukewarm response at the time, with a growing number of fans calling for Town to do away with goal celebration music altogether. Having quietly abandoned that poll, the club has recently provided fans with some other options - including no music at all.

With that in mind, we asked you whether you thought Ipswich should get rid of goal celebration music at Portman Road. Here's what you said:

75% - Yes
25% - No

The result is pretty clear cut. Only a quarter were in favour of maintaining some form of goal celebration music at Portman Road, while the remaining three quarters voiced their desire to see any such jingle removed altogether. Whether attitudes might differ if other song choices were made available is difficult to say, but there is undoubtedly a growing demographic amongst fans of Ipswich and other clubs who believe the best way to celebrate a goal is simply with the voices of the fans.

The club's official poll on goal celebration music is still running over on the Ipswich Town Official Website, where you can also hear samples of the tracks. The choices available for fans to select from are as follows:

Feel Alright
East Town Pirates
Let's Go to Town
Come On Ipswich
Singin' the Blues
Chelsea Dagger
Music but none of the above
No music at all

Votes can be cast by clicking here. The club is set to announce the result before the Blues' next home match against Coventry City on 19 September (LIVE on Sky Sports 1 & HD1).
