Mick Simply Cannot Win!

Mick Simply Cannot Win!

The game against Cardiff was almost entirely played in the rain but there was some cheer for the 15,000 or so supporters who turned out.

Looking around the stadium, it seemed to be much nearer nearer to 12,000 to be honest and maybe the assumption that all season ticket holders attend every game, boosted the published number. Surely numbers should be based on the number that pass through the turnstile?

Ipswich went behind against the run of play because of a rare mistake by the otherwise excellent Bialkowski but were back in the game after an equaliser by Luke Varney who played his heart out again.

There were also fine performances from Adam Webster and Tom Lawrence once more - they are real premiership quality.

The rest of the team were industrious and the effort level and passing was much improved from other recent performances - including the win over QPR.

The crowd rallied significantly when Ipswich pressed for the winner but then resorted to sarcastic clapping when Jonathan Douglas was substituted and then booing at the final whistle.

Many supporters do seem to be at war with the manager and this is not helpful to the players or those supporters who are currently staying away from Portman Road.

Mick McCarthy is our manager but it is not him who sold Daryl Murphy or failed to replace him in the last transfer window. Neither is it Mick who decides what funds are available to spend in the transfer window!

The other point of contention seems to be not playing Jonny Williams. Had Daryl Murphy stayed then I have no doubt that Williams would now be playing behind him. But he was sold, not by Mick and so to play Williams in the current team, would mean either playing him totally out of position or completely changing the structure of the side, which would include leaving out our exciting wingers. Is this really what fans want?

So I say Mick simply cannot win and by that I don't mean the team won't win whilst he is manager but that is what many fans are asking for isn't realistic or helpful.

Keep going Mick! He is including lots of our exciting creative players in the team this season and he deserves our support.

Today was much more encouraging.
